Analysis of facial movement features of patients with depressive disorders responding to Childhood Trauma Questionnaire based on Lempel-Ziv complexity

Journal Title: Journal of Air Force Medical University - Year 2023, Vol 44, Issue 10

Abstract

Objective To explore the specific facial movement features of depressed patients in the process of answering the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire ( CTQ) . Methods Common sense judgment questionnaire was used as natural corpus control test. A total of 47 patients with depressive disorders (patient group) and 53 healthy controls (control group) were recruited to answer common sense judgment questionnaire and CTQ respectively. The identification data of 20 facial action units ( AUs) or combinations were analyzed by generalized estimating equations. Results There were significant differences in five dimensions of CTQ between the patient group and the control group. The model test of the Lempel-Ziv complexity (LZC) of AU reported that there were significant differences in the LZC of 6 AUs between the CTQ and the control test in the patient group, of which 5 were less than the control test and 1 was greater than the control test. The LZC of 13 AUs in the control group was significantly different between the CTQ and the control test, and all of them were less than those in the control test. In CTQ, the LZC of 8 AUs was significantly different between the patient group and the control group. In the control test, there was no difference between the two groups. Conclusion In the process of answering the CTQ, the depressed patients show more significant facial movement responses than the healthy people, which provides a theoretical basis for the application of facial movement analysis in the detection of depressive disorders.
