Analysis of public policies on road safety in Ecuador, from the perspective of citizen education

Abstract

The rates of traffic accidents have always been a matter of attention for the State, because they represent an indication of how its road policies are developed, which is why this research deals with the analysis of Public Road Safety Policies in Ecuador, from the point of view of citizen action. Research conducted with a quantitative approach, being a field study, presenting a descriptive character. The study population consisted of a psychologist specialist, with participation in safety education programs. As well as, a sample of 726 subjects (women and men, of legal age, with a vehicle and belonging to the geographical area under study).Interview and survey techniques were applied, using an interview script and a questionnaire, respectively. The results showed the characterization of current public policies on education and road safety, reporting critical knots in their operation, with great incidence of the scarce budget available.The Ecuadorian government's policies on education and road safety are relevant and in harmony with the international agreements signed by the nation. These policies are implemented through public plans and programs related to education and road safety, through training processes with the support of governmental and private entities
