Abstract

Asthimajjagata vata is a vatavyadhi in which vitiated vata get accumulate in asthivaha and majjavaha srotasa where already kha vaigunya has been developed due to etiological factors. In brihattrayee symptoms of asthigata vata and majjagata vata described together as they are closely related to each other. In Charak samhita and Ashtang hridaya, aacharya stated that asthimajjagata vata can be cured by internal and external application of sneha. Basti is one of the ways of internal administration of sneha. Along with this, Charakacharya and Vagbhatacharya quotes in the treatment of asthikshaya vikara the basti with tikta rasa siddha ksheera and ghrita can be used. In Ashtang Hridaya Uttarsthana 40, Rason (Allium Sativum linn.) is described as Agrya dravya in vatashamana. Rason is such a drug having pancharasa, katu vipaka and ushna veerya with snigdha, pichhila, sara, brimhana, vrishya, rasayana and asthiposhaka properties. Saindhav, makshika, sneha (taila / ghrita) is the essential ingredients of each basti formulation. Hence rason with ksheera and ghrita in the form of basti can be beneficial in asthimajjagata vata.
