Application of Response Surface Modeling and Central Composition Design for Removal of Lead from Aqueous Solution Using Prosopis Stephanian Fruits

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2014, Vol 8, Issue 6

Abstract

In this study feasibility of powder of Prosopis Stephanian’s fruit for removal of lead from aqueous solution was investigated. Prosopis Stephanian grows in different parts of Iran. This plant is a brush spieces that grow in hot& dry zone .A batch experiment was applied to acquire of percentage removal of lead from aqeous solution. Lead (Pb) is one of the most important heavy metals, since it poses a great danger for humans, if accumulated in larger amounts. The central composition experimental design in response surface methodology was used for investigates of affective parameters on extraction such as pH, adsorbent dosage and initial lead concentration on the adsorption of lead by P. Stephanian. The optimum conditions for maximum removal of lead were as follows: adsorbent dosage 4.60 g.L-1, pH of 4.0 and initial lead concentration of 37.5 mg.L-1. The high correlation coefficient between the model and the experimental data (r2 = 0.99) showed that the model was able to predict the removal of lead from aqueous solution using P. Stephanian powder efficiently.
