ARCHAEOLOGICAL AND ETHNOLOGICAL FINDINGS OF YURIY SHUMOVSKY IN THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF BAMAKO (MALI)

Abstract

The importance of establishing the National-Ethnographic Museum in Bamako by the first Ukrainian scientist Yuriy Shumovsky, who conducted ethnographic and archaeological research in Africa is analyzed. It is found that the foundation of the museum is his most valuable contribution to the history of the culture of the Western Africa peoples. Description of the archaeological and ethnological findings, presented at one time by Yuriy Shumovsky in this museum, is given. The ethnographic work of Yuriy Shumovsky: collection, classification, conservation and description of the ethnographic exhibits (masks, amulets, clothing, decorative, consumer and musical items) is evaluated. Photos of the archaeological and ethnological findings first introduced in scientific circulation are presented.
