AUTOMATIC IMAGE COMPRESSION FOR SIGNAL-DEPENDENT NOISE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF OPTIMAL OPERATION POINT

Abstract
The approaches of lossy compression of images corrupted by signal-dependent noise are analyzed. The efficiency of compression for coders applied directly to images and using variance-stabilizing transformations is compared. It is shown that for high level of noise the use of variance-stabilizing transformations is advantageous. Recommendations on the choice of the parameters of compression methods for the neighborhood of optimal operation point in practice are given.
