Effect of Pore Size Distribution on Methane Storage at Low Pressure: Preparation of Activated Carbon for ANG Storage
Journal Title: International Journal of Research in Chemistry and Environment (IJRCE) - Year 2011, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
Natural gas is used as fuel for automobiles due to its high calorific value and relatively clean burning fuel compared to gasoline. It can be stored by liquefaction and compression. For transportation fuel, liquefaction is impractical and requires high pressures (20MPa) and an expensive multistage compression facility. Adsorbed Natural Gas (ANG) method can be used to store natural gas at relatively low pressure (3-4 MPa) that can be achievable by single stage compression. Activated carbons prepared from cocunmut shell and activated by KOH were studied for methane storage application. The effect of different variables of the activation process (KOH/carbon ratio, pyrolysis temperature and time) on methane storage and delivery was analysed. In addition to the well known effect of the micropore volume and packing densityuy , spetial attention was paid to the effect of the micropore size distributyion has in methane storage performance. It wa shown that this parameter is also a key parameter in the application of activated carbon for methane storage application. Activated carbon prepared from a cheap raw material and using a single stage activation process has reached very high methane storage (150v/v). The experimental data were analysed usinh Toth model and data were fitted well with the model.

Use of a New Nanosized Photo Catalyst BaO3TiO.SrO3TiO-An Eco-friendly Process for Removal of Coloring Agents
Colouring agents are used widely and when not consumed are excreted in environment polluting it. Most common pollutants are dyes, synthetic or natural. These dyes were removed through photo catalytic degradation proc...
Synthesis, Characterization and Antimicrobial Evaluation of some 5- (substituted)-2-amino-Thiadiazoles
Novel thiadiazoles were synthesized from Morpholine, Phthalimide and Piperidene. From these compounds various 1,3,4-Thiadiazole derivatives (A4(a-j), B4 (a-j), C4 (a-j) respectively have been synthesized. The c...
Extraction of Chromate from polluted waters using powders of leaves, barks and their ashes of Vernonia cinnerea and Vincarosea apocynaceae
Powders of leaves, barks and their ashes of Vernonia cinnerea and Vincarosea apocynaceae have been used successfully as adsorbents for extraction of Chromate from waste waters. The physicochemical conditions such as...
Simultaneous Determination of Binary Mixtures of Tartrazine and Quinoline Yellow Food Colorants in Various Food Samples and Cosmetic Products in Micellar Media by H-Point Standard Addition Method (HPSAM)
H-point standard addition method (HPSAM) was applied for simultaneous determination of Tartrazine and Quinoline yellow food colorants. The method is based on the complexation of food dyes Tartrazine and Quinoline yellow...
Study of the Removal of Toxic Anions from Contaminated Water Utilizing Natural Kaolinite Clay of Assam
Groundwaters of many parts of Assam, a state of north-east India, are contaminated with high levels toxic arsenic, fluoride. The soil of the area also shows high levels of nitrite and nitrate. The presence of arsenic and...
