Cardio protective activity of Passiflora foetida extract and silver nanoparticles in doxorubicin induced cardiac disease in rats

Journal Title: Indian Journal of Research in Pharmacy and Biotechnology - Year 2015, Vol 3, Issue 5

Abstract

Medicinal plants have been observed to possess numerous activities with regard to cardiovascular system viz. antiplatelet, hypolipidemic, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic and hypotensive actions. For cardiovascular diseases, herbal treatments have been used in patients with congestive heart failure, systolic hypertension, angina pectoris, atherosclerosis, cerebral insufficiency, venous insufficiency, and arrhythmia. Present study was done on cardio protective activity of passiflora foetida extract and with silver nanoparticles. The doxorubicin induced cardiac rats have elevated level of homocystein, hs-CRP, serum LDH and serum and CPK values. Cardiac rats treated with passiflora foetida and silver nanoparticles lowers the all the biochemical parameters studied in this experiment. The mean of homocystein in normal rats were 11.42umol/L. The doxorubicin induced cardiac controlled rats have mean 19.30umol/L. The doxorubicin induced cardiac rats treated with standard drug propranolol have mean 12.05umol/L. The doxorubicin induced cardiac rats treated with plant extract of PSF low and high dose have mean 18.68umol/L and 11.85umol/L. The creatinine kinase mean of normal rats were 754.33 IU/L. The mean of doxorubicin induced cardiac controlled rats was 2298.33 IU/L. The doxorubicin induced cardiac rats treated with standard drug propranolol have mean 873.67 IU/L. Serum LDH and hs CRP levels were also lowered ,when treated with plant extracts and silver nanoparticles.
