CASE8STUDY METHOD AS A MEANS OF INCREASING OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING EFFICIENCY FOR STUDENTS OF EXTRALINGUISTIC SPECIALTIES

Abstract

The article deals with the analysis of using case-study method in foreign language teaching for students of extralinguistic specialties. Adistinctive feature of this method is creating a problem situation based on the facts of reallife. The research is aimed at investigating and generalizing theoretical grounds ofapplying case-study in the teaching process. We believe that case-study method is the best which combines communication and educational goals, provide professional orientation and promote the motivation of foreign language learning. It provides the analytical work of students develops self-discipline, self-education encourages and motivates learning of foreign language through practice. Language practice arises students’ interest in learning of foreign language; because it becomes clear which theoretical knowledge is not enough to solve the problem. It is clear that the implementation of this method needs on the one hand, students’ skills in collaborative work, which will be effective if they are responsible for their independent work and on the other hand – the willingness and ability of the teacher to help them to find information. Teacher ceases to be a carrier of knowledge and becomes an «expert», «adviser» who helps students to navigate in the space of information. His aim is to create real, close to future careers, learning environment. Using case-study method in foreign language teaching helps students: - to understand the theme deeper and create the imagination of real working situations; - to learn the vocabulary needed for discussion of professional issues; - to get the opportunity of practical using of foreign languages for professional communication; - to get the basis to test the theory, to research ideas, to identify patterns, to formulate hypotheses; - to motivate learning a foreign language, to stimulate critical thinking and discussion.
