CATEGORIZATION AS A BASIS OF LANGUAGE REPRESENTATION OF HUMAN KNOWLEDGE

Abstract
The subject of the paper is categorization as a basis of language representation of human knowledge. The aim of the investigation is to observe and compare the nature of two types of categories – categories of thought and lingual ones. We use inductive, introspective and descriptive methods and operate with positions of leading theorists of native and foreign cognitive linguistic. The scientific novelty of the paper is determined by the approach and results of the investigation. The sphere of application of the results is cognitive linguistics. The paper presents linguistic interpretation of categorization as the basis of language representation of human knowledge, network of coordinates, representing special linguistic Word view. The investigation suggests the corpus of theoretical positions about various levels of categorization (relatively free categories of thought and system related categories of language), the nature of categories (primary ones – mental / universal / ontological / basic / common semantic / perceptual natural / lexical semantic and secondary ones – conceptual semantic / grammatical) and their reflection in the language system. Categorization is understood today as the system of static perception of reality that reflects human knowledge about the division of the world in certain categories. It is also viewed as a dynamic process that establishes a connection between the subject of thought and specific mental unit, and a lingual presentation of results of thinking.
