Cehegín en los cuentos de Salvador García Jiménez
Journal Title: Alquipir - Year 2021, Vol 16, Issue 1
Abstract
This article focuses on the presentation of the stories by Salvador García Jiménez that have Cehegín as a common space, symbolically called Aledra or Tehogil by the writer, and that show a very personal style based on retrospection, which leads him to recover lived anecdotes in his childhood. García Jiménez’s short narrative is characterized by the variety and topicality of topics, the ability to manage literary time through the simultaneity of actions, and the mastery of narrative techniques, such as intratextuality, lyricism, irony and parody. All this coupled with a strong intimacy that arises from biographical anecdotes, places and characters that are mostly based on real people who coincided with the writer in his childhood and youth and that are recognizable by many readers. Following the narrative itinerary of the stories about Cehegín, I have traced the literary route that constitutes a real geography that encourages the reading of the ceheginian writer and that invites us to get to know those emblematic settings –such as the Convent of the Franciscan Fathers, the Ermita de la Concepción, the Casino, the Ruins of San Sebastián, the rock paintings of the Peña Rubia, among others – which allow us to recognize the contribution of García Jiménez’s work to the knowledge of the culture, art and history of Cehegín.
