Chronic cough revealing a Kartagener syndrome: about one case

Journal Title: JOURNAL OF FUNCTIONAL VENTILATION AND PULMONOLOGY - Year 2017, Vol 8, Issue 23

Abstract

Kartagener syndrome is primary ciliary dyskinesia and rare congenital disease, with autosomal recessive transmission. It combines the triad: sinusitis, bronchiectasia, and complete or incomplete situs inversus. This disease is usually diagnosed during adolescence. Our objective in this work is to describe the imaging aspects of this syndrome. We report the case of a 45-year-old male Malagasy, who presented productive cough, rhinorrhea and chronic headache. Clinical examination included pulmonary condensation syndrome, infectious syndrome, moderate respiratory insufficiency, and displacement of cardiac auscultation sites. The imaging results revealed a complete situs inversus associated with bronchial syndrome and maxillary sinus filling, concluding a Kartagener syndrome.
