Journal Title: JOURNAL OF FUNCTIONAL VENTILATION AND PULMONOLOGY - Year 2018, Vol 9, Issue 29
Abstract
Objective. To contribute to make better for tuberculosis infection in the prisons in Guinea. Methodology. This is a descriptive and analytical prospective study of active TB screening in the Central House and 7 regional prisons in Guinea from 19 March to 25 April 2015 using the Xpert MTB/RIF. Results. During this study 542/3110 prisoners were selected. The prevalence of tuberculosis was 4% (22), the largest proportion (36.5%) being older than 35 years. There were 95.5% (21/22) of male prisoners. The majority (90.9%) had coughs (> 2 weeks) and are being held in Conakry prison. In addition, 4.5% (1/22) detainees had TB / HIV co-infection and 13.6% (3/22) already had a history of tuberculosis. The majority 86.4% (19/22) of them have been incarcerated for more than three months in cells of more than 46 people on average. Conclusion. Although the prevalence of tuberculosis is relatively low in Guinea, it remains a major problem, especially at the central house. Its control goes through a strict application of the national algorithm.
