Clinical analysis of patients undergoing surgical treatment of the tonsils

Abstract

Introduction. At the crossing of the respiratory system and digestive system is a cluster of lymph tissue called Waldeyer ring. The first buds of the lymphatic system begin to form around 3-4 months of fetal life. To transform primary clumps to the secondary clumps occurs after birth, which is affected by external factors like infectious factors, toxic, allergic or genetic predisposition, what causes that the child begins to develop own immune system. The most dynamic period of development of the tonsils we can observed between 3 and 7 years of age, especially adenoids and tonsils. Aim. Aim of this study was to analyze the clinical patients undergoing surgery on tonsils. Material and methods. The study involved a retrospective group of 153 people who have been subjected to surgery: adenoidectomy, adenotonsillotomy, adenotonsillectomy and tonsillectomy. Results. Among a group of 153 people undergoing surgery for tonsil prevailed children in the number of 103, while dominated by children in age 4-7 (56 patients). In the group of children operated there were more boys but in the group of adults – women. Most of the operation which was done it was adenoidectomy and it was a typical procedure for group of children. In adults, for the most part they made tonsillectomy. Patients which were undergoing operations stated advantage of the presence of blood group A RhD(+). Recurrent infections occurred especially among adults. A typical symptom for a group of children were snoring and nasal obstruction. Allergy was diagnosed in 31 patients, including over 25 children. Patients which were undergoing operations most of them presents group of blood A RhD(+). Conclusions. Surgical treatment of tonsillitis relates primarily to the pediatric population. The predominant treatment is adenoidectomy. Recurrent strep throat are typical for adulthood and are the reason to performing tonsillectomy in this group of patients.
