Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Pathology - Year 2018, Vol 6, Issue 2
Abstract
The cervix is the lowest part of uterus. It is barrel shaped, measures 2.5-3.5 cm in length starting from internal os and end at external os which opens into the vagina. Half of it projects in the vagina (portiovaginalis) while the rest is above the vaginal attachment. The portiovaginalis part of cervix is covered by stratified squamous and extends right up to the external os where there is abrupt changes to columnar type known as squamocolumnar junction or transition zone. In all patients cervico-vaginal smear will be made by means of Ayers –spatula and cotton swab stick. The smears will immediately fixed in 95% alcohol for 30 minutes and then will stained by Papanicolaou method. In this study Colposcopy and cervical biopsy was taken by Gynaecologist. Sqaumous cell abnormalities were observed in 41 (14.54%) cases among these LSIL was the commonest constituting 5.32% followed by ASC-US which was observed in 10 (3.54%) cases. HSIL was found in 8 (2.84%) cases. In 3 (1.06%) cases atypical squamous cells were seen in which HSIL could not be excluded (ASC-H). There were 5 cases (1.78%) of invasive carcinoma of cervix.
