Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Pathology - Year 2019, Vol 9, Issue 3
Abstract
Background: The availability of safe and good quality blood is crucial in improving medical facilities in a society. A study on the KAP of the donors may prove to be useful in the successful implementation of the blood donation programme. Objective: To assess KAP toward voluntary blood donation. Methodology: A structured questionnaire was filled by the voluntary donors and a scoring system was used to assess it. RESULTS: In this study 640 blood donors participated, of which most were males 56.1%, belonged to age group of 18-25 years 95.2%, were mainly graduates 95% and in student’s category 96.3%. Based on the scoring, 93.1% had less knowledge about the blood donation, 78.8% donors had positive attitude and 95% had poor practice. Discussion: When compared to other studies the results were similar. Conclusion: A large-scale national blood donation campaign has to be done to create awareness about the existing shortage of blood in India, inculcate blood donation drive and strengthen motivational perceptions.
