COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF PERSIAN GULF AND GULF OF GUINEA IN TERMS OF OIL SHIPMENT
Journal Title: Deniz Araştırmaları ve Mavi Strateji Dergisi (DA&MS) (Journal of Marine Research and Blue Strategy) - Year 2022, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
From the middle of the 20th century, when oil consumption increased, to the present day when energy crises were experienced, the need for oil in the world had reached a record level. Although the Persian Gulf, where oil shipments were made, was an important gulf in oil shipments, the unstable nature of the region reduced the attractiveness of the region. However, since the Persian Gulf is fragile and open to possible crises, it has been observed that the Persian Gulf is open to be replaced by the Gulf of Guinea. Factors such as the fact that the Gulf of Guinea is geographically close to Western Europe and North America, and that the gulf has a more stable structure compared to the Persian Gulf, increases the importance of the Gulf of Guinea in terms of oil shipments day by day. The present study consists of a comparative analysis of oil shipments over both gulfs. Our study focuses on the questions of whether it is possible for oil shipments to shift from the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Guinea, and also focuses on the advantages and disadvantages of oil shipments through both gulfs.
