THE ORGANIZATION THAT IS THE ARCHITECT OF COHESION POLICIES IN THE MEDITERRANEAN: UNION FOR THE MEDITERRANEAN (UfM)

Abstract
The Mediterranean Region is home to European states and states in the MENA region. This region, known as fertile lands throughout history, has been in the interest of great states. This situation increases the sensitivity of developments in the region. The topographical and atmospheric features of the region facilitated the establishment of settled life. As a result of the development of civilization in the region, different states were established. While these states were in conflict with each other in some periods, in some periods they had more balanced periods with the establishment of the balance of power. With the increase in interstate relations and the spread of trade, cooperation organizations have been established. When we look at the development processes of international organizations, we see that some of them are peaceful organizations covering commercial and cultural areas, and some are military and security organizations. UfM is one of the peaceful organizations established in the region. UfM was established with the aim of facilitating cooperation and integration between EU and MENA countries. UfM has been involved in a wide range of activities from social policies to development programs. In addition, UfM contributed to the production of projects that support human rights. UfM has also been active in the fields of energy and environment with its solution proposals.
