Journal Title: Deniz Araştırmaları ve Mavi Strateji Dergisi (DA&MS) (Journal of Marine Research and Blue Strategy) - Year 2021, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
Although Shanghai Cooperation Organization and The 21st Century Maritime Silk Road are perceived as fully independent regional formations, intensive interactions observed among several states and populations mostly invalidates this point of view. In this context, we decided to cite this article in order to effectuate a modest contribution to regional studies, considering SCO as a model of economic integration in Asia far from a military alliance which debuted officially the enlargement process contributed potentially by new Maritime Silk Road. We prefered Mahan’s distinguished Sea Power Theory and regionalist approach in order to fabricate the theoretical framework of this article. On the other hand, we decided to focus on Sino-Russian relations knowing its well founded contributions to reflecting the correlation between SCO and new maritime silk road. It would be helpful to note that as the new maritime silk road becomes functional, China and Russia shall not be limited only to benefit from the economic and commercial advantages held by this road but also may influence all regional states transforming also potentially their perceptions towards SCO in a positive way.
