Abstract
The political geography of the countries from the past to the present has been one of the most important factors effective in determining the national policies of states. Due to this close relationship between geography and politics, the concept of geopolitics has maintained its importance in all periods. The world, which has undergone a radical change with the Industrial Revolution, has also led to the scientific development of geopolitical approaches. The desire of countries to gain control over the geographies they have always been in and to realize their own world domination constituted the roots of geopolitical theories. The fact that 71% of the world is surrounded by water, that today more than 150 countries in the world have coasts to seas or oceans, and 90% of world trade takes place over the seas, geopolitically, marine geopolitics are the most affected. Therefore, in this study, the theoretical origin of geopolitics and the theory of sea domination from classical geopolitical theories has been examined.
