COMPETITION IN THE ELECTRICITY MARKET

Journal Title: Zeszyty Naukowe Wyższej Szkoły Humanitas Zarządzanie - Year 2013, Vol 14, Issue 2

Abstract

One of the main objectives of EU energy policy is the liberalization of the electricity market in the whole area and the creation of uniform internal market. This is the only way to achieve a satisfactory level of competition at a high concentration and integration of the energy industry in all member countries. The main objective of this paper is to characterize and to assess the state of competition at the electricity market in Poland and other EU countries. For this assessment the measures have been used such as the number of producers (for wholesale market) and suppliers (for retail market) with at least 5% share in the electricity market, the HHI index (Herfindhala-Hirschmana Index) and the number of customers using the option of seller choice (called TPA).
