Compositional analysis of the mixture from the reaction of wheat stalk powder in subcritical methanol

Abstract

Depolymerization of wheat stalk (WS) powder in methanol was investigated. Liquid mixture from the reaction at 220 ℃ was analyzed with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. In total, 37 compounds were identified, including 11 non-aromatic ones and 26 aromatic-ring containing ones, among which many benzene-ring containing compounds (BRCCs) are products from lignin depolymerization. The mechanisms for depolymerization of lignin in WS are examined according to structures of the BRCCs.
