CONCENTRATION OF BANKING CAPITAL THROUGH MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS: CURRENT STATE AND PROSPECTS

Abstract
Introduction. The author considers the problem of the relevance of the phenomenon of mergers and acquisitions of banks in conditions of economic crisis, when the banking system of Ukraine urgently needs high quality cleaning. Methods. The method of analysis and synthesis; historical and logical methods are used during the research. Results. Currently, the market of mergers and acquisitions at a stage of political instability and slow down these processes, but increasing demands on capital of National Bank of Ukraine encourage weak banks to merge, otherwise they have to leave the market. The reorganization process in addition to increasing capitalization and ultimately the reliability and stability of the banking system rise to banking monopolies. Discussion. The obtained results show that at this stage of the process of mergers and acquisitions in the banking sector is gaining more speed due to the failure of many banks to survive a difficult times. It is pertinent to note that the National Bank of Ukraine for its part only promotes the process of bank merger. Proof of this serves as a new form of banking supervision, according to which all banks are divided into appropriate clusters.
