Corrosion behaviour of carbon steel in Hexane Sulphonicacid

Abstract

This research aims to study the corrosion inhibition efficiency of Sodium 1- Hexane Sulphonic acid as its sodium salt (SHXS) - Zinc ions (Zn2+) system in dam water (Tamil Nadu, India) using weight loss method. A synergistic effect exists between SHXS and Zn2+. The influence of sodium potassium tartrate (SPT) on the Inhibition efficiency (IE) of the SHXS-Zn2+ system has been evaluated. As the immersion period increases IE decreases. The nature of the metal surface has been analysed by scanning electron microscope. A mechanism is proposed to explain the inhibitory action of the corrosion inhibitor. The protective film is found to be UV fluorescent.
