Current State and Bridging Pathways of the Health Knowledge Divide for the Elderly

Journal Title: Medicine and Philosophy - Year 2024, Vol 45, Issue 23

Abstract

Under the background of digital technology empowering healthcare management, the deepening issue of population aging in China has highlighted a growing digital divide and generational gap between the elderly and younger groups. The complexity of health information from new media has permeated every aspect of elderly individuals' daily lives, creating obstacles in accessing health information and presenting significant challenges in their social lives. To address this, it is essential to focus on elderly individuals' personal health security, empowerment in social participation, and the realization of social value. This paper explores pathways to bridge the health knowledge gap by examining the current state of the digital access gap, digital usage gap, and digital knowledge gap for the elderly. Striking a balance between digital technology development and real-world humanistic care services, collaborative efforts can help build an inclusive and accessible digital society.
