The image of two vessels has been carved on two antic gems. The first gem has been unearthed at Potaissa – Turda, while the other one belongs to the National Brukenthal Museum’s collection. The first gem, nowadays lost, has the representation of a Christian scene, regarding the Good Sheppard. But it also depicts a commercial ship, named corbita, belonging to the naves onerariae type. The second gem depicts the image of three characters believed to be deities, sailing in a papyrus boat called pakton, which was used on the river Nile.
