Journal Title: Слов’янський збірник - Year 2016, Vol 0, Issue 20

Abstract

The article dwells upon the derivative adjectives, which come from new borrowings and have been used in texts of Ukrainian electronic media from 2013 to 2016. The semantics of derivative adjectives, their variability and their functioning in the context are investigated in this paper. The importance of analyzing a wide range of new borrowings that constantly appear in the Ukrainian language is obvious, as it helps to describe the dynamics of the language. It explains how adaptation of words occurs in the lexical system. The powerful process of integrating new lexical items into the language is a controversial issue, thus it demands a proper linguistic analysis. At the same time a lot of borrowings have undergone word-formative adaptation, motivating other words, already established in the Ukrainian language. The analysis lies in the study of adjectives formed from new borrowings. The subject of our work is to perform the newest borrowings adaptation to the derivational features of the Ukrainian language. Thus, the purpose of this article is to review the functioning of the derivative adjectives in modern electronic media of Ukraine. All this determines the objectives, which are as follows: 1) to distinguish derivative adjectives from nouns which are the latest borrowings , 2) to describe their semantics , 3) to fix their variability. The material of the study involves more than 50 words, which derive from the newest borrowings that were used in the Ukrainian electronic media from 2013 to 2016.
