REDUCTION OF WORDS AS A MECHANISM OF DERIVATION AND WORD FORMATION IN MODERN POLISH LANGUAGE (ON THE MATERIAL OF POLISH INTERNET FORUMS)

Abstract
The article focuses on the problem of abbreviations as a means of communication on the Internet. Special attention is paid to the influence of acronyms and abbreviations on the word formation process in modern Polish language in network communication. The study of the language changes and adaptation to the conditions of communication on the Internet has attracted the attention of both national and foreign linguists. In particular, the impact of the Internet on the Polish language was studied by such scholars as I. Gzhenia, M. Marcjanik, T. and H. Zgulkо. The purpose of this article is to determine the role of the reduction as a mechanism of derivation (transformation of lexical units) and word formation (the formation of lexical innovations from the reduced components) in modern Polish language on internet forums. Having analyzed 584 comments on the Polish forums, we found out that young participants of the forum use both standard abbreviations and colloquialisms. In total, there were chosen 61 shortened lexical units: 34 – conversational and 27 – conventional.
