V. HUGO’S STORY „LAST DAYS OF A CONDEMNED MAN” IN A. S. PUSHKIN’S VIEW

Abstract
This scientific research is aimed at defining genre peculiarities and problematics of one of the most widely discussed by the literary critics and philologists stories by Victor Hugo – „Last Days of a Condemned Man”. We also tried to show the influence of the ideas expressed in the story on the literary work of A. S. Pushkin. The topicality of our investigation is explained by the existence of numerous and controversial opinions on this story. The author’s ideas of tolerance and humanism towards „the crime and punishment” raised a lot of arguments among socially active philosophers, critics and literary men. The story under analysis had a great influence upon A. S. Pushkin. V. Hugo’s view of the „crime and punishment” problem affected A. Pushkin very much. But the solution to this problem was cardinally reconsidered by him. At the same time the peculiarity of V. Hugo’s story can be understood as the extreme expression of the „furious genre”.
