Design and Testing of a Web Based Augmented Reality Virtual Dressing Application

Abstract

In this study, a web based virtual dressing application with help of augmented reality technology is successfully achieved and presented. This application has a structure that uses the computer camera as motion sensor, select the product with remote hand movements and display the selected product as 2D on the user. Nowadays virtual dressing applications are generally used in e-commerce sectors. These applications made it easier and more enjoyful for companies to introduce and sell new products to customers. Companies generally put the application in service online and some companies put it in service in their outlet stores online or offline. The physical situation of stores, the cost of motion capture devices and heavy demand on the application cause difficulties in practice. To overcome these difficulties a web-based application is develop and all the design processes of the application are presented in this study. By using this application the hand cursor is positioned on the screen according to the user's hand movements and triggers the buttons on the screen in the stage of product change. The study has experimented with 20 users in the web environment during one day. User opinions and satisfaction levels about the application have been measured by the prepared scale and successful results have been achieved with well posed marker in front of the camera. Opinion of the users about the application and satisfaction level of users has been gathered with 5 point likert scale. It was found that the highest average value is Entertainment (4.64), the lowest average value is Reliability (4.11) and the satisfaction level of the application is high (X ̅=4.42).
