Journal Title: International Journal of Zoological Investigations - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 1

Abstract

An investigation was made to prepare a formulated starter fish feed for tilapia fingerlings. This feed was prepared by using available raw material such as rice bran, soya meal, mustard oil cake, fish scale, trash fish etc. The formulated start er feed prepared according to the Fish Feed Rules, 2011 under the ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Government of Bangladesh. The protein levels were found as 34.27±0.39% in formulated starter feed. Four aquaria were taken to culture the tilapia fingerlin gs under laboratory conditions and simultaneously observed the growth performance, survival rate and compared with other three commercial fish feed. Each aquarium contained 50 tilapia fingerlings which were reared for 30 days. The formulated starter fe ed was marked as Feed A and other three commercial feed marked as Feed B, Feed C and Feed D. The initial weight of fingerling was 5.26±0.1 g. After 30 days fish weight were found to be 32.36±0.5g, 28.57±0.4g, 21.03±0.2g and 30.74±0.4g for Feed A, Feed B, Feed C and Feed D, respectively. The survival rate was found to be 92%, 80%, 76% and 86% for Feed A, Feed B, Feed C and Feed D, respectively. The highest average daily gain was found as 0.9±0.07 g for Feed A. So, the results showed that the highest number of survival rate and growth performance of mono-sex tilapia was found after feeding fingerlings with formulated Feed A as compared to other three commercial feeds.
