DEVELOPMENT OF IRISH TEACHER EDUCATION (1962–1979)

Abstract
In the article the main trends in the development of Irish teacher education in 1962–1979 have been defined. The socio-political and socio-economic factors, that influenced its reforming during the designated period, have been covered. It has been proved, that 1962–1979 should be regarded as the period of Irish teacher education intensive development due to the extension of teacher education colleges’ autonomy, their reorganization, improvement of the concept of teacher education, increased focus on pedagogical disciplines within initial teacher education programmes, widening of scientific research, growth of cooperation between the university sector and teacher education colleges.
