DEVELOPMENT TRENDS AND IMPROVEMENT WAYS OF A WIND TURBINE SIMULATION SYSTEMS

Abstract

Purpose. To systematize the approaches to synthesis of wind turbine simulators and to develop the recommendations for the improvement of these systems. Methodology. Based on a comprehensive literature review, the generalized structure of a wind turbine simulation system is presented. The principle of work of wind turbine simulators is described. Designing features of an electromechanical system and a software-control system are analyzed. Results. Trends of designing of a wind turbine simulators are presented and improvement ways for these systems are developed. In most wind turbine simulators are constructed on the basis of torque controlled direct current or alternating current electric drive with simplified generating system of wind power plants as a load. Usually separately excited direct current motor driven by a controlled rectifier, or induction motor driven by a frequency converter can be used to reproduce the static and dynamic characteristics of real wind turbines. Wind turbines mathematical models usually takes into consideration dynamic effects of wind turbine like inertia effect, tower shadow effect, gradient effect, gearbox inertia and shaft elasticity to varying degrees without analysis of influence on simulation quality. The power-speed pattern of the wind can be generated from the data based on the Van der Hoven power spectrum or Weibull distribution, from the actual recorded wind speed data or from manual set up. Originality. The complex analysis of the features of the structural synthesis of wind turbine simulation systems is carried out and recommendations for improving the construction and effectiveness of use of wind turbine simulators are developed. Practical value. The obtained results allow to optimize the process of designing wind turbine simulators.
