Abstract

The article is dedicated to the dialect differentiation of the Bulgarian continuum. The problem of the metropolis continuum, principles of its division remain important for the knowledge of structure characteristics and lines of the new settlement developement. The purpose of our investigation is to difine the dialect types of the Bulgarian language continuum, to describe the boarders of the Bulgarian dialects and the interpretation of conditions, types of their appearing. The dialect differentiation of the Bulgarian language is dictated by the unusual history of the Bulgarians on the Balcan, difficult linguistic processes in the ХІІ–ХV centuries, when the main different features between the dialects were formed. The main different features between the dialects appeared in the phonetics, especially in continuation ě (ѣ), vowels of unfull meaning (ú, ь) and nasal vowels (ѫ), (ѧ), less changeable are the grammatical features – the formal organization of the categories (flexions of the plural nouns, defining/undefining of nouns, the old forms of declination, flexions of the verbs of present time etc.). The whole inventory constructing of differentiation markers at different language levels is very actual for determining the genetic particularities in investigating new settlement dialects in future. The Bulgarian language continuum is strongly differentiated, which is the result of difficult processes in the dialects as well as in those migration processes that characterized the Bulgarians’ history during the whole period of their settling in the Balkans.
