Dissolving Behavior of Lignin in Polyethylene Glycol Aqueous Solvent

Abstract

The eco-friendly and simply preparation solvents ( polyethylene glycol/H2O systems, PEG-200/H2O) were developed by PEG-200 and water blending method for dissolution of lignin without heating. When the mass ratio of water to PEG-200 is within the scope of ( 0 ~ 0. 30) ∶ 1, lignin solubility in the solvent PEG-200/H2O system gradually increase with the increase of mass ratio. Lignin solubility can achieve maximum ( > 105. 0 g) when the mass ratio is 0. 30∶ 1. Then with the mass ratio of water increasing, lignin solubility decreases, even not dissolve. PEG-200 affects dissolution of lignin in PEG-200/H2O solvent. The lignin did not react with the solvent in the process of dissolution and regeneration. The structure of lignin is hardly disrupted during dissolution and regeneration process.
