Journal Title: Revista ANACEM - Year 2007, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Community adquired pneumonia (CAP) is an acute respiratory infection prevalent in our country. Our goal is to evaluate impact of national guideline implementation (Chilean CAP consensus 2005), in patients diagnosed with CAP Group 3 (G3), in terms of the clinical evolution and hospitali-zation time among others variables assessed. For this purpose clinical records from the Medicine Service of the Yumbel Hospi-tal were reviewed, between January 2006 and March 2007. The sample was composed by 96 patients, the following variables were considered: age, gender, comorbidities and presenting le-vel of consciousness, required antibiotic therapy, clinical evolu-tion and hospital stay lenght. RESULTS: 50 were men. Age 74.3 ± 13.06 years. 77 patients presented comorbidities, being the most frequent HTN(46), chronic air-flow obstruction (24) and DM (22). The initial treatment was monotherapy with ceftriaxo-ne 1 gr/day in 92 patients (95,83%). A Macrolide was associate after 48 hours in 10 patients (10,4%). DISCUSION: In our series it was safe changing oral antibiotic and early discharging pa-tients as compared with other national registries.
