Dyszkursy Adama Gdacjusza jako kaznodziejska próba propagowania moralnego ładu wśród śląskich ewangelików w II połowie XVII w.

Journal Title: Bibliotheca Nostra. Śląski Kwartalnik Naukowy - Year 2015, Vol 39, Issue 1

Abstract

The article focuses on the writings of Adam Gdacjusz (Gdacius, Gdack), a Silesian seventeenth century evangelical preacher and religious writer. His works belong to mainstream Christian edifying literature. Among the topics found on the pages of Gdacujsz’s magazines, hermatiology issues play a special role, especially those related to sexual ethics. The preacher discusses this issue in detail in two discourses: interrelated in content and composition. The fi rst one is called "Dyszkurs o grzechach szóstego przykazania" (lit. Discourse about the sins of the sixth commandment), and the second one is „Kontynuacyja abo kończenie dyszkursu o grzechach szóstego przykazania” (lit. Continuation or the ending of the discourse about the sins of the sixth commandment). Both were published in Brzeg in 1682. Moralistic refl ection is illustrated by picturesque examples. Gdacjusz creates a genuine catalogue of seventeenthcentury Silesian sinners and offenses committed by them. Unintentially documented, today this aspect of Gdacjusz’s work is a valuable source of knowledge about Silesian customs of the second half of the seventeenth century.
