Ksiądz Johannes Chrząszcz (1857–1928) – duszpasterz, człowiek nauki i pióra, badacz śląskich dziejów

Abstract
Father Johannes Chrząszcz occupies a special place in the Silesian historiography of the late 19th and early 20th century. He perfectly combined his pastoral duties with research on the history of Silesia. Many years of research resulted in the publication of various historical works concerning the histories of local communities. The author brings the fi gure, socio-cultural activities and writings of Father Johannes Chrząszcz to the forefront. From the Father’s vast legacy containing 161 works, the author selects only the most relevant positions. The most valuable ones are the historical academic positions written in German. A comprehensive knowledge and excellent sources can be appreciated in these works. As a teacher of the Polish language he published prayers and spiritual literature in his mother tongue. Father Chrząszcz is an important fi gure in the history of Silesian intellectual culture.
