Abstract
Growing concern in aesthetics of printing in the interwar period resulted in attempts to interest young reader in the issue. Books for children on aesthetics of printing published in that period are not only beautifully designed but they introduce readers to the culture of books, popularizing knowledge previously known only to a narrow group of specialists: from writing, design issues, and typographical shaping, to printing topics in both contemporary and historical terms. The initiators of these activities were usually prominent artists and publishers. As specialists, they drew nigh to children in friendly, simple forms, sometimes fairy-tales, adapting measures to the perceptive abilities of young readers. Interacting with the content and form, they tried to develop a taste for the beautiful book and educate future customers. Under these positions, the spirit of the age perfectly refl ects a classic desire to a sophisticated book and an avant-garde attempt to create a completely new form of children’s books
