Dziecko wobec tajemnicy śmierci w "Roku pańskim" Iwana Szmielowa

Abstract
Whithin the recent study an attempt has been made to present the attitude of the main character (and the narrator at the same time) of Ivan Shmelov’s “Year of the Lord” toward the process of his father’s dying. Initially the boy did not want to accept the inevitability of death. He regarded that death should afflict only elderly people. Therefore in his father’s case he considered it injustice. He was thinking over why God would not have worked a wonder, for which he had asked. However, the father was dying for a long time and the son had much time for prayer, reflection, as well as for tears. Owing to his intimates’ help and care the boy prepared himself for his father’s death, so that he could accept it in a Christian spirit.
