Effect of algae Ecklonia maxima (Kelpak SL) on winter oilseed rape

Journal Title: Rośliny Oleiste - Oilseed Crops - Year 2012, Vol 33, Issue 1

Abstract

Field trials in winter oilseed rape were carried out in the Institute of Plant Protection in the years 2008–2010. The aim of these experiments was to find out what was the influence on winter oilseed rape cv. Galileo of the same dose of extract from marine algae Ecklonia maxima (Kelpak SL) applied in different developmental stages. A dose of 2 dm3∙ha-1 of Kelpak SL was used once in the developmental stage BBCH 13–14 or BBCH 28–30 and sequentially in the both stages. Additionally the results of treatment with Asahi SL were compared. The standard fungicide, herbicide and insecticide protection was used in all trials. The results of experiments were assessed by comparison of: plant height, leaf chlorophyll content, number of seeds per silique, weight of 1000 seeds, yield and quality parameters of the yield. The effect of Kelpak SL was strongly influenced both by weather conditions during the vegetation period and by growth stage of crop during the application. Better effects were observed after later biostimulant application (BBCH 28–30) as compared to the earlier treatment (BBCH 13–14). Kelpak had a positive influence on weight of 1000 seeds, number of seeds per silique, plant height and chlorophyll content in the leaves. Biostimulant did not change the quality parameters of seeds.
