Effect of Breaking Velocity on Arc and Erosion in Sliding Current-carrying Friction
Journal Title: 河南科技大学学报(自然科学版) - Year 2018, Vol 39, Issue 4
Abstract
In the sliding current-carrying friction, the generation of arc and its erosion had important effects on the lifespan and reliability of the friction couples. The effects of breaking velocity of friction couples on arc morphology, arc energy and erosion surface were studied by using the self-designed point contact current friction wear testing machine. The results show that the arc is elongated faster with the increase of breaking velocity, while the arc energy and erosion degree of the friction surface is reduced. The morphology of erosion surface can be divided into three elliptic layers including the heat affected zone at the outermost layer, splash product deposit zone at the middle layer, and melting zone at the center layer. The heat affected zone and splash product deposit zone have different damage degree during the arc formation at different times. The degree of arc erosion in the arc-starting direction is superior to the arc-extinguishing directions.
