Effect of Forging Technology on Microstructure and Properties of TA10 Titanium Alloy

Abstract
The TA10 titanium alloy was forged by different times of upsetting and stretching,and was annealed at 700 ℃ for 1 h. The effects of upsetting and stretching times on microstructures and mechanical properties of alloys were studied by optical microscope and universal stretching machine. The results show that with the increase of times of upsetting and stretching,the strength and elongation of TA10 titanium alloy increase firstly and then decrease slightly before annealing. Fracture mode of the alloy was mainly quasi-cleavage fracture.After annealing,basket-weave microstructure is obtained by one time of upsetting and stretching. Uniform equiaxed α phase is obtained by two times of upsetting and stretching. Coarse organization is obtained by three times of upsetting and stretching. Meanwhile,the fracture mode of the alloy is mainly ductile fracture. Forged by two times of upsetting and stretching and then annealing,the microstucture of TA10 titanium alloy is small and uniform. The tensile strength of the alloy reaches 687 MPa,and elongation of the alloy reaches 22. 5%. Two times of upsetting and stretching is the better forging process.
