Effect of glimepride and metformin as a monotherapy on lipid profile in T2DM patients
Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Pharmacology - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue 3
Abstract
Aims and Objective: To compare effect of glimepride and metformin alone on lipid profile in T2DM patients Material and Methods: T2DM patients having duration of less than 5 years were randomly selected and grouped in to two groups. One group received glimepride and other received metformin. Fasting blood sugars, post prandial blood sugars, HbA1c and lipid profile was assessed at the baseline after 6 months, 12 months and 18 months. Both the groups were compared with the control after 6 month, 12 months and 18 months. Comparison between glimepride alone and metformin alone treated group was assessed statistically. Results: Glycemia and blood lipid levels were statistically significantly reduced in both the groups i.e. glimepride treated and metformin treated. But when these groups are compared there was no significant difference in antihyperglycemic and lipid lowering effect. Conclusion: Glimepride and metformin has antihyperglycemic and lipid lowerings effect but when they are compared for these effects, there was no significant difference.
