EFFICACITE DU SULFATE D’ALUMINIUM ET DU CHARBON ACTIF FACE A DES POLLUANTS ORGANIQUES AROMATIQUES

Journal Title: Larhyss Journal - Year 2011, Vol 9, Issue 9

Abstract

The aim of the study is to improve removal of organic compounds dissolved in water by the process of coagulation-flocculation with coagulant in combination with a material adsorbent. Optimization was to use the aluminum sulfate in combination with activated carbon, for a maximum removal of organic compounds characterized by low molecular weight. Jar Test trials were conducted in laboratory on dissolved organic compounds (phloroglucinol, pyromellitic acid) in distilled water. Many reaction parameters were as varied as coagulant dosage, the pH of aqueous middle and the dose of powdered and granular activated carbon. Interactions of organic compounds in the presence of coagulant combined with activated carbon revealed several mechanisms (physical adsorption, ligand exchange or complexation on the surface floc of aluminium hydroxide or activated carbon). The results indicate that powdered activated carbon has an impact significant improvement in yields of disposal and the economic aspect of the process.
