Abstract
This paper characterizes time series with particular emphasis onforeign exchangetime series.The analytical part ofthe workisthe studycomparinga normal distributionwiththe empiricaldistributionof returns Polish zloty against theten major world currencies and currencies of developing countries. Research indicatesfairly strongvolatilityof the rates ofreturn in relationto a normal distribution. Sample contains 17,710 quotations, whichallowed for a detailed analysis ofthe behavior of therateof returnrateof the Polish zloty in the years 2007–2013.
