Evaluation of adapting the institutions popularizing music culture in Łódź to suit the needs of the disabled
Journal Title: "Konteksty Kształcenia Muzycznego" - Year 2015, Vol 2, Issue 1
Abstract
The article is a report on the research into activeness of disabled people. It assessed whether the people living in a wheelchair could take part in cultural events without restriction. That is why it was checked whether they would, or would not encounter architectural barriers in particular institutions. The researchers took into account e.g. accessibility of car parks suited to disabled people’s needs, state of the traffic routes leading to the buildings, conditions for moving around their interiors, bathroom equipment of the required standard. It turned out that the municipal infrastructure, used for popularizing music culture (allowing for a contact with music), is accessible to physically handicapped people to some extent only. Actually, the users getting around in wheelchairs, with the help of walking sticks and crutches would not encounter many obstacles hampering their moving around inside – both horizontally and vertically, between storeys. However, at the same time there was a lack of parking places suitable for disabled people’s needs and traffic routes of the required parameters near the institutions in question.
