EVALUATION OF E-ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE LIGHT OF WORLD AND TURKEY E-COMMERCE DATA: ANALYSIS OF THE COVID-19 AND PRE-COVID-19 PERIOD

Abstract

Purpose: In this study, the main purpose is to evaluate e-entrepreneurship in Turkey in the light of Turkey and World e-commerce data between 2015-2021. In addition, it is aimed to interpret the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the period before it, and to offer suggestions with future expectations. Material and Method: Descriptive and explanatory research method were used in the research. In order to collect data, document/record analysis, which is a quantitative data collection method, was conducted. Since the aim of the study is to evaluate the data published from all over the world and Türkiye, all data related to e-commerce and e-enterprises covering the years 2015 to 2022 were tried to be collected from the entire universe. To carry out this study, Turkish Industry and Business Association (TUSIAD), The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Commerce, Turkish Informatics Industry Association (TÜBİSAD), World Bank (World Bank), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), United States Department of Commerce and data published by some institutions were used. Findings: E-commerce in Türkiye and in the world has developed similarly. Especially during the Covid 19 period, there have been remarkable developments in e-commerce figures. The effect of Covid-19 on e-commerce has been felt more intensely in Turkey and there has been a very high increase in the number of e-enterprises in Türkiye. Result: The continuous development of e-commerce volumes and technology shows that investments and support for e-entrepreneurship need to increase. Ecommerce offers unique opportunities for startups to reach the world market. By taking advantage of these opportunities, serious benefits are provided to both businesses, consumers and national economies. For this, e-entrepreneurship should be supported with financial, managerial and educational incentives.
