EVALUATION OF THE CONTENT AND COMPETENCY OF GIVEN MEDICAL EDUCATION IN ERCIYES UNIVERCITY FACULTY OF MEDICINE

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Background: In this study we aimed contribute for the desing of medical education in Erciyes Univercity Faculty of Medicine by collecting first year students consideration about their education. Methods: The sample of this descriptive study is the first year students of Erciyes Univercity Faculty of Medicine. The 84 of 308 first year students were recruited. Data were collected by face to face interview. In data analyses we used descriptives, student-t, and chi square tests. Results: The 53(63.1%), and 31(36.9%) of students respectively female, male. First year students choices for lesson/day, lesson free day, lesson free half day, and laboratory lesson accompanied by a lecturer were respectively 85.7%, 77.5%, 75%, 77.4%. The 72.6% of students stated that discussion based lessons, and 62.7% of them stated that panel based lessons should be done. Additionaly 92.9% students stated that they prefer abstracting in the end of the lessons and 61.9% of them consider that homeworks are useless. Conclusion: In conclusion we consider that we reached usefull information about the configuration of medical education that students received from Erciyes Univercity Faculty of Medicine. We can list these information as late start up for morning lessons, relatively longer breaks, interactive presentation of theoric lessons, and set up additional laboratory lessons.
