EVOLUTION OF THE IMAGE OF THEOTOKIA IN THE EASTERN CHURCH’SHYMNOGRAPHY

Abstract
This article examines the historical path of the development of the Byzantine hymnography and sacred monody. An image of a woman in ancient cultures, the summit of which has became a Christian image of the Mother of God, is being investigated. Emphasis on the complex structure of hymnohraph texts that formed on the basis of elements of musical and poetic principles of ancient cultures, primarily, Jewish, Greek, Syrian. In the hymnography of the Eastern Church this theme had been filled with vibrant music and poetic form, which later was adopted by the Ukrainian Church. On this basis, the Blessed Virgin’s theme has been deeply rooted in Ukrainian music and became leading in national art.
